- The last General Election was 8th June 2017 between Theresa May and Boris Johnson with the Conservative Party winning the election.
- Corbyn decided to follow the path in the Labour Party after Ed Miliband resigned after their defeat in the 2015 general election. After becoming leader of the Labour Party, he delivered many conferences and speeches to argue his opinions that he believed lacked in his local newspaper, the Islington Tribune.

On 19th June 2017, Police in Manchester and London registered surges in Anti Muslim hate crime in the aftermaths of the Manchester Arena bombing and London bridge attack.


Syrian War
The Syrian Civil War has been going on since 15 March 2011 and is still going on. The conflict is regarded towards the Ba'ath government and forces who want the government gone. Many presidents and British MPs have discussed the issue with the war and ways to prevent the many deaths and refugees that have increased since the war began so long ago.

- Brexit was first talked about and voted for through a referendum on 23rd June 2016 where 51.9% of citizens voted to leave. On Friday 24th May 2019, Theresa May resigned from being MP after being MP for nearly 3 years. When she entered 10 Downing Street, she made 2 main goals clear; to hell more 'ordinary working-class families' in general life and to deliver Brexit that British people voted for.
- Grenfell Tower: in the early hours of the morning on 14 June 2017, a fire broke out in the kitchen of a 4th floor flat at the 23 storey tower block in West London. the fire quickly spread across the entire tower where 72 people lost their lives. One reason the tower fire spread so quick is that the building is partly made out of flammable materials, including a polymer foam.
- Windrush: This Scandal is a political scandal concerning people who were wrongly detained, denied legal rights, threatened with deportation.
- NHS: During 2016, many junior doctors forced strikes throughout London where thousands of appointments were forced to be cancelled due to the 'significant' impact on the healthcare provision, according to the junior doctors.
- Charlie Gard: Charlie Gard is an infant from London, born with MDDS (a rare genetic disorder). This became a huge story after how the only medical cure for this was to fly to USA to have surgery, as they said they can perform the surgery, which Charlie's family was happy to do, but NHS said they shouldn't take him on a plane due to health reasons.


Cultural Trends
- Films: More recent films have been lacking originality due to many methods of film production already have being done, so creating a new formula is harder to do. Currently, remakes are a popular way of making a new film such as Lion King
- TV: Similar to films, TV series' are lacking originality due to the massive growth in production. So many series' are simply using the same formulas to previous seasons to re-create a new season with a cheap price to air.
- Music: Music genres are slowly being limited to 80's and 00's pop due to this being the majority of what people listen to. This is where many artists make their money, reasoning why the genre is most popular
- Video Games: With the increase in technologies within the recents years, the interest in video games has gained due to new game opportunities being allowed.
- Youtube: Youtube has slowly increased its viewership where daily viewers, uploads and amount of content has all increased, being free to post, watch and enjoy.

We want to market these artists and promote these artist as much as we can along with a new song. Typically music videos are three to five minutes long, they frequently include quick cuts Music videos accommodate all styles of film-making, including animation, live action films, documentaries, and non - narratives, abstract film. In the 1980s the music video became synonymous with the rock idiom and for this reason they are often referred to as rock videos proliferation = it is everywhere Gender is another key issue, females had to live up to male fantasies. Performance, concept and narrative music videos Performance based - many music videos include performance of the artists as part of the video. it was from clips of performance that music video developed. Narrative based - often the video tells a story either that features in the lyrics or is suggested in the lyrics this narrative can be like a mini film, with a beginning, middle and end. or it can suggest some links to a story. It can promote a film with clips from the film including telling a story. Concept based - concept videos are based around a single idea or concept and are usually unusual or obscure, even surreal for an audience. The usual content is an attraction to many consumers, which draws them in. Concept thematic: There are lots of common themes in music videos depends on the genre of music Concept symbolic: Use of lots of symbols to build up meaning lots of use of montage lighting often used to suggest mood fast paced - often only a few seconds per shot to build up meanings pictures can support or contradict the lyrics.

Exam question ting

Analyse how social and cultural contexts can influence advertising. The shelter campaign shows the struggles of the regular average person that could well be any one of us, the people shown are just used as exemplars to portray that anyone could be in the position to lose their house all together. Shelter end up representing the social compliance's that have been made up over the years, such as bottling up emotions and financial struggles and not letting anyone help has become a common theme, this often leads to manipulation in some cases, for example the big red font on the second picture says "He can't do that", the "he" mentioned here would be the landlord, this probably shows that the landlord is kicking the tenant out because of insufficient payments and/or payment manipulation by bumping the rent up. Shelter highlights this fact by putting it in big red font almost in a bloodied colour to show the importance and danger that this has in life, it can cause chaos and uproar in lives and can tend to deteriorate a persons mental psych, probably leading to severe cases of suicide or attempted suicide. Shelter raises the issues of social contexts because of how important it is to find help and helping the prevention of homelessness, they want to make their material shocking to the public because they need to get their message across to ensure that fewer people lose homes and more people call Shelter to find help about their property. Shelter provides the cultural input as well, for context in England, a lot of people in England are well off and do not have these kinds of issues, this is what the government would want you to believe, however the truth is that more than 10% of people need financial help with their housing situation as of 2019. However the cultural construct is being merged and moulded into the form of England being quite a wealthy country and most of the populace being able to maintain houses. Shelter have tried to break down this cultural construct by making normal people look like they need help, with the camera close up and the sad looking type faces they have really break the stereotype of England.

Charity Advert Thingy

Empathy Shock Shelter tried to get to the root of problem of loses of housing and tried to help as many people as possible. Context: Ken loach's Cathy Come Home project was a pivotal establishment of the charity. Campaign launched in 2011 to encourage people at risk of losing their home to ask for advice earlier. Ran from 21st of august for 6 weeks. Shelter's campaign was created by Amplify on a pro bono basis. Each poster had a website and a slogon and grabbed peoples intentions. Just one number to donate to, easier ways to donate rather than having multiple ties.

Question 5 Explain how the representations in magazines reflect their contexts. Refer to The Big Issue covers you have studied to support your answer. [10]

The big issues overall context that they have been trying to convey since september 1991 is that homeless is big issue in our society therefore they believed themselves to be of great help towards their cause by helping them sell the Big Issue’s magazines for 100% profit at the homeless buy these magazines for £1.25 and then they sell them on for £2.50. In a way they act like a charity that act by providing the public news and mostly truthful content which will refer to real world problems that they feel need to be brought into the public eye whilst also providing a huge aid to homeless people that decide to sell their newspapers. 
The A team magazine perfectly encapsulates the context of what the Big Issue has been built on, It represents Autism as something to be proud of and that you can be a hero even though you have a disability such as autism which most people think of heroes when they see the A team because of the 80s TV series, which was a show about heroes of all shapes and sizes teaming up. Another way this helps the context would be the celebrity christopher eccleston who wants to help with spreading the word about autism, most celebrities want to help with the big issue therefore they get involved in the magazine to help raise awareness, this has been a sort of traditional thing since the magazines conception. They have also put emphasis on the autism side of things by keeping the stories about brexit and such at the bottom in a much smaller font, they do this to make sure that autism is being made an aware thing, so people help with getting people to feel accepted in society with autism.

One big thing about this magazine as well is the fact that the typography surrounds both of them with the letter “A” as we know the letter A in this context stands for autism, therefore it represents that they both have autism, one being servere and one being not so severe, this shows that people can have autism regardless of who they are, and they can be joined as a team rather than shunning them both out and creating just a soul community of where we don’t accept others like the autists and we’d become a very segregated country.

The paddington bear magazine is done superbly with the context of it all, because once again this also raises a huge problem going on currently, which would be immigrants being denied access to our country and even when they are allowed into the country they are ridiculed and shamed because of their skin colour or their accent. Therefore they used paddington bear to help prove the Big Issue’s point because technically paddington is also an immigrant from peru and we accepted him into our country with open arms, so why not accept others who are of different cultures to also have access into our country. 

Typography is also a massive part of what makes this magazine cover stand out because in huge font it says “ONE OF US” which clearly shows that the message is that we as a country need to accept people as a community without shunning people out, in a way they are campaigning for all immigrants, but they are all being represented within paddington bear, they are him. Another point about the typography would be that it has a marmalade texture to it which is paddingtons favourite sandwich which can represent that everyone has different quirks, cultures and religions, so that we shouldn’t disturb these kinds of things.

In conclusion these magazines confront the context of dealing with the truth and conveying messages that need to be heard by the entire community of england. They have been doing this for years as well as helping homeless people find money from doing good acts and not doing shady jobs. By using their magazines they spread messages that need to be heard about the world and the problems in the UK, in return the homeless are helped by earning 100% of the profit made by the magazines so they truly want to help england in a positive way and make it as wide spread as possible

Minecraft essay

Minecraft was made in may 17th 2009 by an innovative indie developer called 'Marcus Persson' otherwise known as 'Notch', on the release date, Minecraft was sold at £10 exclusively on PC which later on in the development in 2011 the price would be raised to £18 which was due to microsoft promoting the game on the xbox 360 which made the first step into cross platform play and providing minecraft new fans because xbox 360 was one of the biggest consoles of 2011.

Minecraft, in essence, was a tool to be used to let your imagination to come to life. With it's blocky nature that is similar to lego, it inticed the younger age groups to come up with new ideas and become more imaginative, it also helped bring people together with how inclusive it is. Minecraft is considered a sandbox, free roaming game in which building is the main intention and surviving is secondary with mechanics such as hunger and monsters otherwise known as mobs that come out within the night time and in caves. However this is only secondary, because the primary selling point of the game was to build, and there was no limits to what you could build, literally the imagination was the only limit. This is a part of what made minecraft a huge hit among the youth, with over 100 million copies sold by 2017 and the exact figure in 2019 being 122 million copies sold.

Orginally, minecraft was just a simple game of building and normal survivng no hunger system or anything complex just plain old simple build and survive. this was partly due to the low work force that Marcus Persson had with only 3 people actually working on the game in 2009, this made it hard to do more complex things, however this turned out good for Marcus for it made fans more intrigued by the game because updates came weekly and sometimes monthly which had players looking forward to something new which caused word of mouth to go around about minecrafts updates, one of the big updates included redstone, which was a massive hit because it allowed people to create mechanical thigns like railways, during the time of this update player numbers went up by 10,000 active accounts, in 2013 when the update was due to release.

In 2010, Marcus created the company Mojang which was a development company that made games, but mainly focused on the minecraft aspect of their works. Also by adding a company to their game they could now start hiring people in a company that was named therefore more people would apply to work with Mojang so that updates could be provided faster and that the growing player base of minecraft was sated within weeks of completing an updates new content. By making this company it also introduced rivals in the same buisness trying to buy them out, however Marcus was resilient to these offers as he believed in the games development and wanted the game to flourish under his tutorial. Marcus also had a very good relationship with the players as he often responded to what they were asking or helpful ideas that might have come into updates into the future, this played a big role into the success of minecraft as well because Marcus' charisma and helpfulness was felt in the player-base which made people feel as if they were a part of the game, therefore they stayed for him and the updates that were released, this also caused people to talk about him way more which would entice people to buy minecraft.

Marcus Persson worked alongside his fellow developers at Mojang for 4 years as they carried on to pump out updates and keep players happy with what they were doing with the game, however on 2014, Marcus didn't have the same drive as he once did in 2009 and he also gained a some mental health issues which killed his drive to provide the content he once did with the same amount of effort and enthusiasm. Therefore, Marcus wanted the game to live so he accepted an offer that microsoft had offered which was a total of 2.5 billion USD to keep the game alive and keep updating it to keep fans happy and playing. This also gave Microsoft the tools to obtain the game for themselves and claim ownership of the game in it's entirety, however Microsoft let Mojang developers to carry on working on the game without Marcus, who had resigned and stepped down from Mojang to live his life. Mojang are still the main developers of the game for they know what the core of minecraft revolves around, but there are now other developers provided by Microsoft that also work on a different side of minecraft such as texture packs and skins that player can buy for £4.99 each, they also help out with new UI interfaces regarding Xbox one intergrating with ps4 because minecraft had just became cross platform which meant that xbox player could play with ps4 players.

Radio 1 Research

Research:
  • The first breakfast show presenter was Tony Blackburn, he remained in the role for nearly six years.
  • Others that have been dj's and/or presented radio 1 are John Peel (1967), Kenny Everett (1967), Annie Nigjtingale (1970), Simon Bates (1980), Miss P (1984), Chris Evans (1995), Greg James (2017).
  • Nick Grimshaw stepped down from hosting the BBC stepped down from hosting the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show, the dj told listeners that he was 'tired' and was ready to hand over nearly a year ago. He is now the second- longest serving breakfast show presenter in the stations history.
  • The records present that radio 1 have an average of 5.72 million listeners a week. 
  • The controller of BBC radio 1 is Ben Cooper.


  • Radio 1 is very distinctive through through the use of a broad range of youth listeners with a very vast mix of contemporary music and speech. It offers a range of new music, support emerging artists -especially ones from the UK- and provide platforms (synergy) of live music.
  • The BBC is much stricter when it comes to brands mentions, whilst BBC breakfast tends to be hard news and lunch time tends to be predominantly chat shows. Commercial tend to typically target a vaster audience than the BBC and use pre-recorded interviews which kills to birds with one stone.
Social media and the Radio 1 website:

  • The website is aimed at a younger target audience; this is evident by the presentation of the young emerging and popular artists. Therefore the younger artists predominantly attract a younger target audience. Also various games (try not to laugh laugh challenge w/ water) is present which again would predominantly appeal to a younger target audience. As Radio 1 has a formal presentation with little facts and news.  
  • Whilst the Radio 1 one social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, include formal messages and tweets to the target audience, these include short humerous clips that entertain the audience with encourages the audience to share the comedy to there friends to increase the fan base.
  • However, i believe that Radio 1 also try to provide material/content for other target audience groups, this is evident through the various sections and tabs available to click when on the website. Therefore, this then allows a larger fan base.
  • To fulfill the PSB, Radio 1 provide accurate and impartial news, current affairs and factual programming of the highest editorial standards so that all audiences can engage fully with issues across the UK and the world.
  • Educational content will help support learning for children and teenagers across the UK, whilst audiences will be engaged to explore inspiring and challenging new subjects and activities through a range of partnerships.
  • Innovative content covering may different genres will be provided across a range of services and platforms, setting the standard in the UK and the world.




Radio 1 Essay

How is the radio 1 breakfast show encouraging user interaction?

The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show mainly targets a range of young listeners, using a mix of music tracks and speech/talks. This is what entertains and engages the audience to listen. The target audience is 15-29year olds, sometimes targeted at younger teenagers for the songs played. We listened to timed segments of the Breakfast show. We found that a high percentage of the songs were British artists and many of the various competitions such as: Tickets to the FA Cup, Cricket World Cup, hang out with the 1975 and Little Mix. Also, on Radio 1 Breakfast show there are no adverts so its non-stop tracks and discussions to keep the audience entertained. We also found that they would play 3 songs and then they will have a small discussion or a quiz or a competition to fill in the times. However, during our segment they had an interview with some NFL legends to advertise Super Bowl 53 and in another segment, they were interviewing a Radio 1 representative. They also play a game called Radio 1 Jam Slam which is a quiz/anagram game to win prizes. When Radio 1 brought in Nick Grimshaw he was expected to boost the ratings due to his celebrity status and young people connection. However, Radio 1 Breakfast show suffers a heavy rating fall, but Greg James gave the Breakfast show a boost when he joined and took over from Nick in 2018 after Nick lost 9.37 million listeners a week. However, Greg James added 231,000 listeners in the final three months of 2018, averaging a weekly audience of 5.11 million including those aged 15 and older. The BBC Radio 1 website consists of the latest music tracks (a way of listening to them-which are updated frequently). It also includes live music and mixes, such as live lounge, where artists sing covers of other people’s songs; the official chart, Radio 1 playlist, ‘what’s new’, news, sport, weather, iPlayer, sounds etc. Analysed podcast: “A journey back into fake Britain”- Greg James plays a game by ringing lots of callers and firing random questions, in which they have to respond with the first thing that comes into their head without panicking or thinking too much. The idea is that the person on the end of the phone is under pressure, which makes it more entertaining for the listeners. An example of the sort of questions are: what noise does a koala make? Or a happy butterfly? These questions are unusual which engages the audience because Greg James can be known as a fun, younger guy, friendly, like your best mate- very likeable. Another part of the podcast presents him asking viewers what they listen to, to help them fall asleep. This is affective in receiving more listeners because it shows that the radio presenter has an interest in what their fans like and dislike. People want to get involved because Radio 1 is listened to by a wide target audience. Greg James had been promoted to the Radio presenter for the morning breakfast show. This is due to the fact that Nick Grimshaw’s audience figures had dropped whilst he was still the presenter. Radio 1 figured using Greg James in the morning would increase the number of viewers- which is exactly what happened. He is very popular with the audience and this is consequently shown through his social media. When researching Greg James’s social media, I had seen that he had posted a screenshot of a BBC news article stating ‘Rajar figures: Greg James boosts Radio 1 breakfast audience by 230,000’. This suggests that people would rather listen to Greg James presenting than when Nick did. He also posts humorous images and tweets across all of his social media. Some posts are duplicated across a few different types of social accounts, such as Instagram and Twitter for example. A reason for this could be if some viewers don’t have a certain type of social media due to preferences of how it works or is set out. Greg James’s social media differs from Radio 1’s due to the fact that the radio show has to look professional/have a sense of organisation (layout, text, captions), but still ensures that it ‘entertains, informs and educates’. The Radio 1 Weekend is going to be held in Swansea. It consists of well-known artists attract radio’s young audience and also attracts others who are not listeners of radio 1. Therefore, this event can attract new listeners who would be persuaded by the good artists in the line-up. The event is said to be as good as Glastonbury since the line-up is very popular. Previously, the event has been held all over England with a new location every year to attract its listeners all over the country. The line-up always includes a few popular acts to attract listeners with new artists as well as to show new music just like Radio 1 do on shows.

Jungle Book Evaluation

What was the work assigned?

We were assigned to make a jungle book interview with the necessary information about the jungle books development, more specifically the 2016 one and comparing it to the original in 1967. This information was primarily meant to be based on the marketing tactics that Disney undertook during the making of the film, as well as the development of the film such as CGI and the actors used in the film like a voice over and the only actual human cast represented on the film Mowgli played by Neel Sieth.

Making the interview?

We used premier pro to make sure we could edit on a green screen on the background of our interview of which we used a poster cover on the background which was blurred out, we also used premier pro's cutting tool extensively because we needed to make cuts where necessary because we did it all in one take which came up to a 15 minute video, so not all the footage was meant to be logged into the final interview. Our biggest obstacle was the clashing with Georges clothing along with the green-screen which we had to overcome with george just zipping up his hoodie because it was the stark opposite colour of the green screen which finally stopped the clashing with the colours. Overall it only took about 4 hours to finally finish all together.

Feedback

The editing was fantastic but we had to be more enthusiastic when acting in the interview because when one person spoke the other seemed disinterested in what the other was saying.

Marketing Script

I-Welcome back before the break we spoke to Chris Evans about Captain America Civil War but now we are joined by Brigham Taylor and Wayne Docksey who are here to talk about the new upcoming Jungle Book remake.
I – How did the idea to produce a remake of the Jungle book come about?

P – well, being the final film Walt Disney, himself ever worked on, we only felt right that a remake was developed for the crowd. Then on July 3rd, 2013, Walt Disney pictures released the fact of them developing a story boarding the adaptations between the original and this remake
ping the remake of the Jungle Book. And from there Jon Favreau starting writing scripts

I – So being Walt Disney’s final film, did you take any inspiration from his Jungle Book 1967?

P – well we took the inspiration of Walt’s love for animation and put it into a live action which he discovered was a new passion for him during the 1950’s. Walt told a quote to the world saying “there’s nothing funnier than the human animal” which portrays to the audience the connect between them and the characters within the film, ya know? We wanted to make sure the connection between the audience and characters was clear and loved because that’s what all Disney studios films are about, which was clearly found within the original and how the happy, joyful characters appealed to the younger audience.

I – with the established inspiration in which you took from the original, is there any tweaks/adaptions you’re making to the remake?

P – well of course. It wouldn’t be a remake if absolutely everything was the same (smiles/laughing). The main tweaks that are made are how the film is live action instead of just pure Cel animation, now we have the capabilities of CGI. Another big difference from the original is how we have focused on the connection between the audience and the main character, Mowgli, played by Neel Sethi, which, as a result, we have had to reduce the amount of songs within the film as well as the really soft tone that the original seemed to obtain. Now it’s more of a hard tone, still suitable for our younger audience, but this relationship between the audience and Mowgli should raise whilst also attracting the older generations that have more of an interest in Disney films in the modern age

I – you mention this relationship between Mowgli and the audience, is there a specific moment within the film where this is shown or is this throughout?

P – well there is also some form of connection throughout the film, but in various specific scenes, there are major connections between the 2 ends of the film. One scene where the connection shows quite well is where Mowgli is being taken towards the man village with Bagheera and he is complaining how he was brought up in the jungle which he believes is where his home is. This moment connects with the audience as they remember he is still a kid but acts like he’s much more responsible and independent, which is what audiences have always connected with. Then with Shere the tiger pouncing on the 2 characters, the audience hope Mowgli is okay, like he’s their own child, and cares for him, feeling sympathetic, further connecting with the characters

I - So you talk about the connection between Mowgli and the audience, what about Mowgli and the other animals. How does Neel Sethi react with the animals when on set.

P - Well all the animals are not real; we use CGI. All animals are made by Special FX and via puppets with our puppeteer, April Warren. We used various blue screens for majority of the film due to forest locations being rare to find. Then we used many props like muddy hills and fake tree branches for Neel to run across for us when later editing, to replace the blue screen with more jungle to give the surreal look we want.

I – and a quick question for you Wayne. How is this new remake of Jungle Book planning to be marketed oppose to how the original one was   

M – well we plan to release our official trailer September 15th of this year, 2015, whether or not certain clips and info gets leaked, is up to our IT department to keep safe. Luckily for us, Disney is already well known so It won’t be too hard for word of the film to spread around, but other than the trailers, we plan to post on all social media including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. We have also been working on a certain style of poster, that we won’t reveal yet! Don’t badger me just yet, however do look out for posters on the jungle book you might notice small details if you look carefully although you might miss some if you were to just take a glance. They will be much more intuitive than the 1967 ones that looked like they were made by a child.

It has been a great journey to produce marketing tools for this new rendition of the jungle book, going from small childrens toys to things like working with KENZO which are a french stylist company to make merchandise like sweatshirts and hoodies, etc that are jungle book themed and we even worked with AirBnB to create a newly made jungle book themed AirBnB holiday home for families looking to venture into the jungle book world, our IT team though have been excellent with dealing with the influx of products and love handling this.
